As the English version of Santa or St. Nicholas, Father Christmas is considered the patron of children, the poor and needy. Long ago, English lords hired actors to dress as Father Christmas and travel the land to find needy families in order to help them. Today, Father Christmas is England’s gift–bringer to children.
